For some time I was planning to go abroad for my study. Be it for either normal colleges or for an internship. Having almost finished my study, with only two months left until I have to start working on my thesis, chances of going abroad grew smaller. I could not go abroad when I had my internship, and following colleges elsewhere instead of the normal curriculum was not allowed.
However, now I have the opportunity to write my thesis in Sweden! Though things are not definitive as we’re still discussing certain aspects, I was offered to write my thesis at the SP Technical Research Institute in a city called Boras, near Gotenburg, Sweden. During four months I will work on developing a thermo-acoustic driven cooler.
Now I actually do not know anything about thermo-acoustics, but after having read some articles about it, it sounds very interesting to me. For instance, a simple experiment is Rijke’s tube. By heating a wire mesh inside a tube you can generate a standing acoustic wave! But now, say somehow you have generated a standing acoustic wave, you can generate a thermodynamic flow! So you could heat or cool something. And this will work because, the involved thermodynamic cycle, the Stirling cycle, is reversible.
Anyway, it would mean I would leave Holland for four months. I am still not sure whether I keep my room or move out….
